Fifteen years had come gone in Grey’s City, and still not a single human heart remained beating. Building sank into the ground bearing the weight of empty homes - only broken pictures frames served as proof that life had once dominated this once lively city. Perhaps even the world. The world, that was slowly decaying, but there was not a single voice that could tell you what was to be of the world. Was there life still out there? Or had the virus crept up upon every two-legged creature? It was a mystery, a great one at that. If there were survivors they were well away in hiding, waiting for a sign. Waiting for a cure that had never come, and would never come. But the deceased would never come to know, was that there had been a cure well on its way...
In the year of 2009 (fifteen years ago), the world was well on its way to destruction. But isn't that how the story always goes? Environmentalists were working hard to pursue their dreams in making the world a better place; the attempts were with good intentions but hardly scratched the surface. Eco-friendly products clogged the isles of stores but the prices were rising at such a rate that it was impossible to contribute. There was no denying it, the world was ill, pollution and disease wrapped strings around us. The human population was heavily decreasing; people were falling victim to the sickness that seemed to sweep across the nation. It was in the air they breathed, filling lungs with the waste they created themselves...
This is a vital part of history here, for this is where a young girl was on the verge of marking a turning point in history. Heather Pope had grown up with great potential, an angel at best if you will. She would be the only shining light in the world’s darkest hour, for she had found a cure that would put an end to all this sickness. This cure would give everyone the second chance they needed to turn their living habits around and truly make the world a better place. She had first discovered it by accident down in the basement of Grey's Hospital, Heather had been up all night with Tasha, and her white German shepherd curled at her feet. The brush of her hand was just enough to knock over small glass vials, a puddle formed, and in her curiosity Heather discovered the cure. At this moment Cyrus Mitchell descended the stairs...
Cyrus Mitchell grew up as an intelligent young boy, in his lifetime he had come to bear many awards. He first met Heather through their internship, lust had formed deep within his should, what he wanted more than anything was Heather. Anger took hold for he knew just as well as anyone else, that she loved another. Each success had only brought them closer together; he was another young doctor that had stolen the very heart that Cyrus wanted. He looked after her with a thirst that could only match that of a vampire.
Behind him a Chante followed close at his heels, a black dog that carried eyes of a killer. Naturally dogs were not allowed in the hospital, but Tasha and Chante had always been welcome in the late hours of the night. Always they remained in the rooms out of sight where it was not seen as a health hazard.
Heather in all her excitement shared her discovery; Cyrus wore a fake smile stretching across his pale face. He moved in but was only rejected, Heather left without hesitating. Jealousy filled the room; Cyrus was quick to act without having another thought as to what he was doing. His hands were fast at work, creating what would be the virus that would destroy the entire city, and maybe even the world. By the time he had realized what he had done it was far too late. The virus was not properly contained; it took over the room and Cyrus. Within the first few moments of breathing it in he fell ill, struggling to get to the stairs to warn Heather he collapsed. This treachery had been created out of jealousy, hatred, and lust. As deadly as the virus was, it moved slowly taking it's time there was not one square inch it failed to cover. It took a total of six years for those who remained in the city to die. Those that left carried the virus in them; it could only be a matter of time before they would infect more cities.
The virus rather than kill them, had become part of their DNA, a mutation had occurred that would further alter the evolution of all dogs. Those with dark hearts changed into beasts, demon dogs that haunted the empty alleys and the streets when the sun went down. Their bones split along with their fur coats, making room for bone like spurs. Some grew fangs; other's had eyes that color of blood, while the more powerful were even rumored to have wings made of bones that tore through their shoulder blades. Then there were those of pure heart with coats that glistened in the sun, beautiful creatures of the light that would protect all. They grew feathers on the backs of all their legs making it possible to run at an alarming speed. They could jump higher as well; some had markings that gave them unknown abilities unique to their own talents from when they were normal creatures of the world. And like that of the higher power there were rumors of the stronger dogs with wings like those of an angel.
The mutation gave them life; they could outlive any creature for centuries to come. They were faster, stronger, and developed unique abilities all their own. Tasha took over watching the canines of light heart, while Chante led those of evil intentions. Both being raised by doctors their intelligence was greater than that of any other dog around and were dubbed the official leaders. Tasha tried her hardest to reason with Chante. She wanted to devote her life to finding a cure, remaining faithful to her past master Heather. Chante argued the opposite, that they had been chained down and that the virus could have ended them as well. Realizing that they could not see eye to eye, they went their separate ways.
Will Tasha find a cure? Or will Chante start a new war?
